Caranavi is an intermediate city of Bolivia, capital of the first section of the Province of Caranavi located in the north of the department of La Paz, distant 150 km from the city of La Paz. 

The second section of the Caranavi Province is Alto Beni. The Province is made up of these two sections. Currently, Caranavi is the fourth most populous and important municipality in the Department of La Paz.

According to the last Bolivian census of 2012 carried out by the National Institute of Statistics of Bolivia, the municipality of Caranavi has a population of 50,330 inhabitants and its urban capital, has a population of 13,569 inhabitants. The municipality It has a surface area of ​​1,553 km² and a population density of 34.32 inhabitants/km². 

It is located in the sector known as the Yungas belt of the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes and has been declared the coffee capital of Bolivia. Caranavi is located at a height of only 600 meters above sea level and its climate is warm-humid, with a temperature that oscillates between 20 and 32 °C.

A person who wants to visit the municipality and its different attractions must take into account the departure from a strategic point in the country, this being the city of La Paz. 

The Minasa terminal located in the Villa Fátima area is a starting point to visit the Yungas. It has daily departures in the following types of public transport: Fleets, minibuses, small vehicles.
